In the Catholic Church
in Ireland, this Sunday, 2nd October, is the ‘Day for Life.’ Pope John Paul II in his encyclical
letter on the Gospel of Life in 1995
had called for a day each year ‘to foster in individual consciences, in
families, in the Church and in civil society a recognition of the meaning and
value of human life at every stage and in every condition.’[1]
This year the Irish Bishops have chosen as the theme for the day, ‘A call to
solidarity and hope in difficult times.’ It is important in this time of
recession and worry for some, that we affirm the value of life and reassure
everybody that there is no need to lose hope.
The Bishops have issued
a message for the day and you can take it as you leave the Church. It is available here in Sacred Heart Church, but you can also read it in pdf format and see other information on the Day for Life 2011 by clicking here.
