Eco-Congregation Ireland
Eco- Congregation Ireland hopes that churches will celebrate Creation this Lent and take steps to care for the environment by -
1) Planting fruit and nut trees in their church grounds or locality to mark the UN International Year of Forests. Planting edible landscapes is a practical way to prepare for a low-carbon future by increasing local resilience. Native species can be sourced from www.irishseedsavers.ie.
2) Studying one of the many excellent Lenten resources that incorporates an environmental theme.
The Irish Catholic Bishops' pastoral reflection, Cry of the Earth, provides an excellent starting point for a series of discussions. It invites individuals and parish communities to reflect on the challenge of climate change and the actions we can take to help construct a more sustainable environment. It also encourages parishes to enrol in an environment programme, like Eco Congregation Ireland.
Columban Faith and Justice has produced a Stations of the Rainforests resource pack for Lent 2011, which incorporates the themes of extractive industries, loss of biodiversity and climate change. Included is a DVD and booklet containing reflections for each of the stations and material for liturgies. £7 inclusive of p&p from Columban JPIC Office, St. Joseph’s, Watford Way, Hendon, London NW4 4TY. Also recommended is Operation Noah's Between the Flood and the Rainbow (www.operationnoah.org) and the Diocese of Bath and Wells' Lenten course, Love for the Future, which is both inspiring and uplifting - a much-needed resource at this time of economic uncertainty. Also, the Ecumenical Water Network's Seven Weeks for Water meditations and action ideas, which focus this year on 'Water, Conflict & Just Peace' (www.oikoumene.org/7-weeks-for-water).
For individual reflection, Judy Cannato's books, Quantum Grace:Lenten Reflections on Creation and Connectedness and Quantum Grace: The Sunday Readings (Ave Maria Press) are highly recommended.
You are also encouraged to use the attached 'A Chant Out of Doors' during worship. This beautiful arrangement was composed by Rev Anne-Marie O'Farrell last year and we are delighted that she has given permission for it be copied for use in churches. It lends itself to liturgy themed around creation, the natural world, harvest and St Francis.

At a press conference last Monday in the Capuchin Day Centre in Dublin's Bow Street, the Council for Justice and Peace of the Irish Episcopal Conference launched From Crisis to Hope: Working to achieve the Common Good. The document addresses the considerable financial turmoil that we face individually and collectively and the associated disaffection throughout Irish society. The document calls for the protection of the poorest and most vulnerable in our society as a core element of any measures aimed at addressing the current political, social and economic crises.

B. The Tullamore Youth Pastoral Council wish to tell you about their upcoming National Parish Youth Conference which is taking place on the 5th March 2011 in St. Mary's Youth and Community Centre, Tullamore from 9:30am-5:30am....
The theme of this year's conference is "Community Unity-The Church as social network...." Guest Speakers will include Bishop Donal Mc Keon and Ronan Scully, Andrew Maloney and Sean Dench...
This event is open to all with an interest in working alongside the young people in our church...their intention is that every parish across Ireland will be represented by young people between the ages of 12-18 years of age
