Day for Life 2026

 Day for Life 2026

On this year’s Day for Life, Sunday 21st June,  we reflect on the wonder of human life from the moment of conception. We remember how the LORD Jesus Christ Himself sanctified and experienced the beginning of life in the world as an unborn child, hidden in the womb of Mary. Mary knew that she was carrying the Son of God – God and man – as soon as He was conceived.  John the Baptist leapt in his mother Elizabeth’s womb when Mary greeted her. Our Lady treasured Our Lord in her heart and womb until His birth. To read the full bishops’ message visit www.councilforlife.ie

Ministry of Catechist and Order of the Permanent Diaconate

In order to best facilitate discernment and preparation of the formation programme, the closing date for application for the Ministry of Catechist as well as for the Permanent Diaconate in the Dioceses of Clonfert, Galway, Kilmacduagh and Kilfenora is being extended. They exercise a ministry of the Word in preaching and teaching, and Ministry at the Altar, in assisting the celebrant at Mass, in officiating at certain liturgies, and preparing people for and officiating at Baptisms and Weddings. Both the Ministry of Catechist and the Permanent Diaconate involve a sizeable period of discernment and formation. Day of Prayer for Survivors and Victims of Abuse : 20th February 2026

Day of Prayer for Survivors and Victims of Abuse Friday, 20th February 2026 is observed annually as part of the Church's commitment to acknowledge the harm caused by abuse, to pray for those who have suffered, and to seek healing, justice and renewal. Initiated by Pope Francis, Church bodies throughout the world mark this day as a time of reflection, repentance, and solidarity with survivors.  The Candle of Atonement and accompanying prayer are offered as a reminder to all of the need for us to atone and to ask forgiveness as a Church for the suffering caused by abuse. They symbolise repentance, light in the darkness and hope. We keep victims and survivors at the centre of prayer and reaffirm the Church's ongoing commitment to safeguarding.
