The week culminates with a Papal Mass. A group of young people from our diocese attended the most recent World Youth Days held in Cologne (2005) and Sydney (2008).

CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK

Sunday 30 January marks the beginning of Catholic Schools Week. The purpose of the week is to highlight and celebrate the wonderful contribution that Catholic schools make to our local communities and society in general. This year’s theme is ‘Catholic Schools – Rooted in Jesus Christ’. During the coming week, we invite you to join us in celebrating the contribution that our Catholic school(s) make(s) to the life of the faith community here in our parish.

1. Cardinal Seán Brady welcomes first ever SIGNIS meeting to Ireland

On Thursday, January 27th, delegates from SIGNIS, the World Catholic Association for Communications, held their first ever meeting in Ireland in Dublin's Alexander Hotel.

2. Mass to open Catholic Schools Week to be broadcast by RTÉ1 television this Sunday.

Bishop Brendan Kelly, Bishop of Achonry and chair of the Council for Education of the Irish Bishops' Conference, will celebrate Mass to open Catholic Schools Week this Sunday 30 January at 11.00am. This Mass will be transmitted by RTÉ1 television from its Donnybrook studio. The choir for the Mass will be provided by the pupils of St Clare's Primary School, Harold's Cross Road, Dublin.

Prior to the celebration of Mass, Cardinal Seán Brady, Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland, will introduce a short documentary highlighting the value and contribution that Catholic schools make to our parish communities.

Bishop John McAreavey and Bishop Denis Brennan of the Bishops’ Council for Communications welcomed this year’s message of Pope Benedict XVI for the 45th World Day of Social Communications. The theme of Pope Benedict’s 2011 communications message is “Truth proclamation and authenticity of life in the digital age.
