World Youth Day Madrid 2011

This week, a very important occasion on the Church calendar occurs in Madrid, Spain. World Youth Day was born from Pope John Paul II's evangelising outreach to young people. During his pontificate, enthusiasm for this gathering of Catholic youth from all over the world continued to grow. Pope Benedict has continued papal involvement in WYD. In reality, the event now spans a full week, culminating with Mass celebrated by the Pope on the final day, World Youth Day itself, which will be next Sunday, 21st August 2011.
Great fruit has come of WYD as thousands of young people have become alive in their faith due to the experience. They bring home a sense of the joy of believing in Jesus and belonging to the universal Church.
