Feast Day of our church this Friday.

This Friday, June 11th, is the Feast of the Sacred Heart to which our church is dedicated. On Thursday, June 10th, our church is 27 years old. Thank you for being the ‘living stones’ throughout that time.

We have two Masses on the Feast Day, the usual 10 AM Mass and an Evening Mass at 7:30.

“Understood in the light of the Scriptures, the term ‘Sacred Heart of Jesus’ denotes the entire mystery of Christ: Son of God, uncreated wisdom; infinite charity, principle of the salvation and sanctification of mankind” (Directory on Popular Piety and the Liturgy, 174)

Saints of the Week.

June 6th, St. Jarlath (Patron of our sister diocese, the Archdiocese of Tuam) is said to have been a disciple of St. Enda, and was taught also by St. Benignus. He became abbot- bishop of the monastery he founded at Tuam in the sixth century. Legend has it he was driving through the countryside in his chariot looking for a suitable site for a monastery, and asked God for a sign; the wheel broke on his chariot at Tuam, and he took this as an answer. To this day a broken wheel is the emblem of the town and Archdiocese of Tuam.

June 9th, St. Columba (Tertiary Patron of Ireland), also known as Colum Cille, was born in Gartan, Co. Donegal in 521 and was of royal lineage. He studied under St. Finnian of Moville and St. Finnian of Clonard. He founded monasteries in Derry (he is patron of the city and diocese of Derry), Durrow, Iona and possibly Kells. He left Ireland, either for penance or to be a pilgrim for Christ, but Iona became his principal foundation. From it, missionaries undertook the conversion of Northumbria. Columba is noted for his great love for people and all living creatures. He died on June 9th 597 with the words ‘keep among you unfeigned love with peace’.

June 12th, Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

“The Church celebrates the liturgical memorial of the Immaculate Heart of Mary the day after the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The contiguity of both celebrations is in itself a liturgical sign of their close connection; the mysterium of the Heart of Jesus is projected onto and reverberates in the heart of his Mother, who is also one of his followers and a disciple” (Directory on Popular Piety and the Liturgy, 174).

The Pope’s Intentions for June.

General: That every national and transnational institution may strive to guarantee respect for human life from conception to natural death.

Mission: That the churches in Asia, which constitute a “little flock” among non – Christian populations, may know how to communicate the Gospel and give joyful witness to their adherence to Christ.

Good News! Ordination!

Please pray for Rev. Patrick O' Donohue who was with us as a deacon last summer. Patrick will be ordained priest this Sunday, 6th June (Corpus Christi), in the church of Corpus Christi, Lisdoonvarna by Bishop Martin Drennan. We need more vocations to help renew the Irish Church, vocations to Priesthood and Religious Life, vocations to Marriage and the Single Life. All together make up the Body of Christ. Can YOU help?
