Abraham Lincoln pointed to a sheep one time, and asked someone close by: 'Supposing that sheep's tail was a leg, how many legs would it have?' 'Five legs', came the instant reply. 'No, no', replied Lincoln, 'pretending that its tail is a leg doesn't make it a leg, so the sheep would still only have four legs!'

Is today's gospel fact or fantasy for you? Is it nothing more than just a nice idea, a pretty concept, or is Jesus really who and what he is, when he tells us that he is the Good Shepherd, and we - you and I - are actually members of his flock, who follow him, and for whom he takes total responsibility?"
