This Fourth Sunday of Lent is known as Laetare Sunday. The word laetare is Latin and it means rejoice. In other words, we rejoice because we have passed the half way mark in this penitential Season of Lent and the great feast of Easter and the Season of Easter is drawing ever nearer. We wear lighter coloured vestments on this day as a mark of this.
This Fourth Sunday of Lent is also Mother's Day so we pray God's blessing and invoke the Virgin Mary's protection on all our mother's in their wonderful vocation. We remember and give thanks for the mother's who have gone home to God also on this day. The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world.
