7. Trócaire Bulletin for Palm Sunday.

“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Psalm 21:8-9)
Today’s psalm could be the caption to so many of the images we have been presented with by Trócaire this Lent. Indeed, we can, relate to this in asking “My God, My God, why have you forsaken them?” as we wonder,  time and again, why there is so much suffering in the world, and particularly this Lent, why so many people are still hungry.

There are now one billion hungry people in the world - more than the combined populations of the European Union, United States and Canada.  The bitter irony is that there is enough food in the world to feed the population just no political will to eradicate hunger.  Trócaire is now calling on the government to outline its progress in those areas during the UN Millennium Summit in September, when world leaders will report on progress on the Millennium Development Goals to which they signed up ten years ago.  The first goal set out to halve the number of people living in hunger by 2015.

The Trócaire Box has been part of the Irish Lenten Experience since 1973, and they are available at the church doors. Why not find out more about the Trócaire campaign and their work at http://www.trocaire.org/ ?
