Day of Prayer for Survivors and Victims of Abuse : 20th February 2026

Day of Prayer for Survivors and Victims of Abuse Friday, 20th February 2026 is observed annually as part of the Church's commitment to acknowledge the harm caused by abuse, to pray for those who have suffered, and to seek healing, justice and renewal. Initiated by Pope Francis, Church bodies throughout the world mark this day as a time of reflection, repentance, and solidarity with survivors.  The Candle of Atonement and accompanying prayer are offered as a reminder to all of the need for us to atone and to ask forgiveness as a Church for the suffering caused by abuse. They symbolise repentance, light in the darkness and hope. We keep victims and survivors at the centre of prayer and reaffirm the Church's ongoing commitment to safeguarding.
