Department of Education Survey on the Future of Primary School Patronage
The current Department of Education survey on the future of patronage in the primary sector is important. It will shape the discussion on primary school divesting for the years to come throughout the Republic of Ireland.
It is important that those who wish for a change in patronage have their voice heard. It is equally important that those who wish for a Catholic Education for their children and for those who would wish for sacramental preparation within school would have their voice heard also. For those reasons and to ensure that an accurate picture emerges, please participate in this survey if you are a parent or a prospective parent of a primary school student.
The survey can be accessed at www.gov.ie/primaryschoolsurvey.

Dear Exam Students of 2025,
I hope that you are well as you enter into this final time of preparation for
your upcoming exams.
No exam, no matter how important, can ever define you. You are much
more than any exam and much more important in God’s eyes than any
grade you might receive.
I know that exam time can be a stressful time. This is all the more so when
the exams we are sitting might influence our future path in life. I just
wanted to let all the young people involved in this year’s state
examination processes know that you are very much in my thoughts and
prayers at this significant time in your lives. I am also thinking of the
parents, guardians, families, teachers and friends of those sitting
examinations. It can also be an anxious time for you.
One of the great things about living in the age in which we live is that
your future does not have to be defined by these exams. Although they
are an important step in gaining access to the course or career you have
dreamed of, don’t forget that there are many other ways and a variety of
other paths that can lead you to where you should be in life. It is not
“what you are in life” or “what degree you have” but rather the “kind of
person you are” that makes all the difference.
Try to get rest, eat well, take time off, relax as best you can. Find a
reasonable study schedule. Do your best and then let God do the rest. He
will be there with you to calm those nerves, to help you in ways you might
not expect and most of all to give you the gift of perspective. No exam,
no matter how important, can ever define you. You are much more than
any exam and much more important in God’s eyes than any grade you
might receive.
Remembering you all in my prayers at this time and indeed throughout the
summer and always.

Easter Greetings from Bishop Michael
Hope blooms in abundance at Easter
Hope blooms in abundance at Easter as we relive the story of that first Easter morning.
Jesus who had died, has risen. He has been transformed and has gone before them to
Galilee. The resurrection of Jesus is the foundation of the Christian belief that God’s last
word on life is not suffering and death but rather healing, wholeness and new life. The
resurrection of Jesus is the source of all Christian Hope.
When hope is in short supply
It is ironic that at Easter in the Jubilee Year of Hope 2025, hope itself seems to be in short
supply. War and suffering dominate the news headlines. We need but think of the martyred
people of Gaza, the broken people of Ukraine, the terrorised men and women of South
Sudan. Commentators struggle for words to express the massive changes occurring at the
level of global politics. Many speak of a new world order and the need to spend more on
establishing military might. Vengeful language has become the norm. Half-truths and
untruths seem to abound. Our world is on edge. Love seems to be struggling in a sea of
hate.
“All shall be well … all manner of things shall be well”
As we hear again the Easter Proclamation “He is not here! He is risen! He has gone before
you to Galilee!” (Mt. 28), let us take heart. Let us turn to the risen Christ. Let us renew our
confidence in the Goodness of God who can bring life out of death, order out of chaos
and hope out of despair. Turning to the words of the fourteenth century mystic, Julian of
Norwich (1342-c.1416), let us take comfort in the sure hope that “all shall be well; all shall
be well, and all manner of things shall be well … there is a force of Love moving through
the universe that holds us fast and will never let go.” (Revelations of Divine Love).
My hope and my wish this Easter is that the divine force of love moving through the
universe may renew your sense of hope and hold you and yours fast and never let you go.
Happy Easter in the Jubilee Year of Hope 2025.
